The cured urea-formaldehyde resin color is lighter than phenolic resin, translucent, weak acid resistance, weak alkali resistance, good insulation performance, excellent wear resistance, cheap price, it is the largest amount of adhesive variety, especially in the wood processing industry in the manufacture of various wood-based panels, urea-formaldehyde resin and its modified products account for about 90% of the total amount of adhesive. However, urea-formaldehyde resin is easy to decompose in case of strong acid, strong alkali, poor weather resistance, poor initial viscosity, large shrinkage, brittleness, water resistance, easy aging, wood-based panels produced with urea-formaldehyde resin have formaldehyde release problems during manufacturing and use, so it must be modified.

Urea-formaldehyde resin is mainly used to prepare amino alkyd baking paint with alkyd resin to improve the hardness and dryness of the paint film. It is combined with non-drying alkyd resin to make acid-curing amino paint for wood furniture gloss. However, the weather resistance, water resistance, and light retention are slightly worse.
